Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy is effective January 1, 2018, and is based on Automattic’s Privacy Policy; you may copy this text under a Creative Commons ShareAlike license.

The Upright website and all content, services, and products available at or through the website (collectively, our “Services”) is operated by Upright Media, Inc. (collectively, “Upright”, “we”, or “us”). We appreciate the trust you place in us; this policy outlines our efforts to safeguard your privacy.

Security and Encryption

Upright takes all measures reasonably necessary to protect against the unauthorized access, use, alteration or destruction of potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information, including detailed internal security and backup policies. Your connection to our servers will always be encrypted using the best-available browser cipher suites (currently AES-128 with ECDHE keys), and where possible, sensitive information (such as passwords to external services) is encrypted at rest with AES-256 encryption using keys unique to your account.

User Tracking

Like most website operators, Upright collects information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, some of which is potentially personally-identifying information — this includes your browser type, the referring site of links you clicked, and your IP address.

We track activity on our Services so we can deliver customized experiences (like email summaries or tutorials), and to better understand what’s popular with our users. From time to time, we may release non-personally-identifying information in the aggregate, e.g., by publishing a report on global usage trends.

Some of this information is collected by third-party vendors (such as Facebook, Stripe, or Heap) that help us provide our Services (such as by allowing you to post automatically, handling payments, or providing analytics). Apart from these vendors, no user information from Upright is shared with any other third party.

Access by Employees

We have strict policies in place for access to customer information by employees and contractors. Access is only permitted when necessary for the provision and continued safe operation of our Services. Any employee or contractor who does view customer information must agree not to disclose it to others and is subject to careful supervision. Some of those employees, contractors and affiliated organizations may be located outside of your home country; by using our Services, you consent to the transfer of such information to them.

Personally-Identifying Information

Upright collects personally-identifying information only insofar as is necessary or appropriate to fulfill the purpose of the visitor’s interaction, such as when you create an Upright account or import a video. Upright does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below.

Upright will not rent or sell potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information to anyone. Other than to employees, contractors and affiliated organizations, as described above, Upright discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only in response to a subpoena, court order or other governmental request, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the property or rights of Upright, third parties or the public at large.

If you create an Upright account, you must supply your email address. We may occasionally send you an email to tell you about new features, solicit your feedback, or keep you up to date with what’s going on with Upright and our products. If you send us a request (for example via a support email or via one of our feedback mechanisms), we reserve the right to publish it in order to help us clarify or respond to your request or to help us support other users.

A cookie is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor’s computer, and that the visitor’s browser provides to the website each time the visitor returns. Upright uses cookies to help us identify and track visitors, their usage of our Services, and their website access preferences. If you do not wish to have cookies placed on your computers, you can set your browser to refuse cookies, but note that you won’t be able to create an Upright account or use any of our Services.

Deleting your Account

If you create an Upright account and decide you’d no longer like to use it, you can delete your account. We will remove personally-identifying information that relates solely to your account as soon as possible.

Business Transfers

If Upright, or substantially all of its assets, were acquired, or in the unlikely event that Upright goes out of business or enters bankruptcy, user information would be one of the assets that is transferred or acquired by a third party. You acknowledge that such transfers may occur, and that any acquirer of Upright may continue to use your personal information as set forth in this policy.

Upright may change this Privacy Policy from time to time, and in our sole discretion. We encourage visitors to check this page for any changes, and if you have an Upright account, we will send you an email or other communication before any major changes take effect. Your continued use of the Services after any change in this Privacy Policy will constitute your acceptance of such change.
